The Chester Beatty is situated in the heart of the city centre, within the historic grounds of Dublin Castle. We are a two-minute walk from Dame Street (via the Palace Street Gate of the Castle) and close to Christchurch Cathedral (enter via the Ship Street Gate of the Castle).

  • By LUAS: (Red Line) Jervis, (Green Line) Trinity & St Stephen's Green
  • By DART: Tara Street.
  • By Bus: 27, 49, 54a, 56a, 77a, 123, 150, 151, Dublin Bus Tours
  • By Car:  No onsite parking (except for Disabled Person's Parking Permit or Card holders); nearest public car park is Christchurch Car Park
  • By Bike: There are bike stands just outside the entrance. Dublin bikes have a large station outside City Hall.

For visitors with reduced mobility, the most suitable entrance is via the Ship St Gate of Dublin Castle, as it is the closest entrance to the Chester Beatty. If you are coming by car and you have a Disabled Person's Parking Permit or Card, you will be permitted access to the grounds of the Castle, via the Ship Street entrance.  The nearest public car park is Christchurch Carpark

The Chester Beatty is a wheelchair/buggy-friendly building, with wheelchairs available free of charge.  An accessible restroom for visitors in a wheelchair is located on the ground floor and many of our exhibits are placed at a comparatively low height to facilitate viewing by those visitors who use wheelchairs.

The Chester Beatty offers dementia-friendly tours on a regular basis, the lecture theatre is fitted with a loop system and visitors with guide or service dogs are welcome.

Free drop-in public tours take place every Wednesday at 1pm, Saturdays at 2pm and Sundays at 3pm.

Suitable for individual visitors, families and small groups (under 5 participants), these informal tours provide a general introduction to Chester Beatty’s exhibitions.

Tours last for approx. 1 hour, are free of charge and delivered on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to 20 participants.

Our on-site café provides the perfect rest-stop during your visit.
