Dr. Christine Casey will discuss Michael Willis annotated translation of Johann de Laet's 1649 version of Vitruvius's De architectura. The manuscript is bound in a morocco red and gold leaf binding and is considered one the finest books produced in Dublin at its time.
Christine Casey is an architectural historian with a particular interest in the relationship of architecture and decoration and the role of craftsmanship in architectural production. Christine has led an IRC New Horizons interdisciplinary research project entitled ‘Making Victorian Dublin’. Focused on the Museum Building at Trinity College Dublin this joint project with the Department of Geology is exploring the role of materials and craftsmanship in Dublin’s Victorian architecture.
