John Thomson: the intrepid traveler and the survival of his photographic collection
Betty Yao, exhibition co-curator, will present a talk on the life and work of John Thomson set in the context of a 19th century travel photographer to Asia. He traveled to Siam (Thailand) as a professional photographer only a few decades after the invention of photography. In this talk, Betty Yao will follow Thomson’s footsteps and look at the people and places he photographed. She will divulge the story, the twists and turns behind the survival of this valuable collection through 150 years.
